EUFGIS.

The European platform for the management and conservation of forest genetic resources

For EUFGIS, the European information system dedicated to forest genetic resources, NewtVision designed and developed a new digital infrastructure that brings together data management, geospatial tools and scientific collaboration within a single platform.

The work was carried out within the European FORGENIUS project, with NewtVision acting as the technology partner responsible for the development and technical evolution of the platform.

We developed a new public portal providing access to and exploration of data on Genetic Conservation Units, forest species and environmental information, alongside an intranet dedicated to National Coordinators. The restricted area provides tools to enter, update and validate data, manage geographical information, work with shapefiles and perform environmental analyses directly within the platform.

At the same time, we designed the environments and workflows for managing data produced by the FORGENIUS Work Packages, developing processes to collect, harmonise and integrate scientific datasets from different sources and research teams.

A key part of the development focused on integrating databases and geographical, climatic, environmental and biological data, combining GIS tools, automated processing workflows and connections to external data sources. The architecture brings together relational databases and graph technologies to connect information across different scientific domains.

The result is a platform designed not simply to publish data, but to collect, organise, connect and make it usable, transforming complex scientific information into practical tools for research and the conservation of forest genetic resources.
